Private Equity / M&A Lawyer Looking for Something Different
A leading international law firm is looking to hire a Practice Manager to support its Private Equity and M&A team in London.
This is a genuinely interesting opportunity for a qualified corporate lawyer who enjoys the pace and substance of transactional work, but is now looking for something broader than pure fee earning. The role sits at the heart of a high performing private equity and M&A practice and will work closely with partners and senior stakeholders on the day to day running of the group.
It would suit someone with at least 3 years' post qualification experience in corporate law, ideally with strong exposure to private equity and M&A, who is interested in the people, strategy and operational side of practice management.
The successful person will be involved in a wide range of areas including staffing and resource allocation, associate development, training, evaluations, performance support, mentoring, onboarding, hiring and broader strategic projects. You will be a key point of contact for the team, helping to ensure lawyers are supported, developed and deployed effectively, while balancing client demands with career development and team cohesion.
This is not a back office administrative role. It needs someone commercially aware, credible with partners, confident around lawyers at all levels and able to bring sound judgement, structure and initiative to a busy practice.
The firm is open to lawyers who are moving directly from private practice, provided they can clearly demonstrate an interest in practice management and the broader people and operational side of a legal team. Previous practice management experience would be helpful, but it is not essential.
Key requirements:
Qualified lawyer with a minimum of 3 years' experience in corporate law
Strong private equity and M&A experience gained in a leading law firm or comparable in house environment
The gravitas and communication skills to work closely with senior stakeholders
A genuine interest in lawyer development, staffing, performance and strategic practice support
Highly organised, proactive and able to manage competing demands
French language skills would be advantageous, but are by no means essential
London based role with regular office attendance
This is a rare move for a corporate lawyer who wants to stay close to top quality work and top quality lawyers, while moving into a role with real influence across the practice.
