What They Say
At firms like Latham & Watkins and White & Case, the pool of potential laterals is incredibly small. Recruiters need to act on behalf of the firm as ambassadors, understanding the strategic imperatives for growth, and conveying a detailed and finely-tuned proposition to candidates who often have no need to move and are well looked after by their current firms. David and Freddie are in a tiny subset of partner recruiters who are able to perform at this elite level.
Global Director of Lateral Recruitment
Throughout the entire process, Hamish made me feel like I was his only candidate. He was always available and provided regular updates. He walked me through the entire process and was incredibly helpful and insightful. I highly recommend Hamish.

He is a strong, hassle free, head hunter that instils confidence in candidates and brings credibility to each of his clients' searches. He takes great ownership in all of his assignments, is tenacious and brings all of the skills gained in his former career as a banking lawyer to every recruitment project he takes on. One of the few top tier recruiters around.

Good partner recruiters are rare, and there is a process of natural selection that leads inexorably to firms like Montresor. Their consultants exemplify the key attributes of valuable business partners: market knowledge, user-friendliness, tenacity, excellent network, a broad and educated perspective, and commerciality. I have worked with David Carbery and Freddie Lawson for many years and hold them in very high esteem.

The successful candidate will advise on the structuring and execution of complex transactions, working closely with front-office teams, compliance, operations, and other key stakeholders.
Requirements:
* Qualified lawyer with 3+ years' PQE gained in a leading law firm or financial institution.
* Experience advising on structured finance and securitisation transactions.
* Knowledge of UK and EU securitisation regulations.
It's a great role to join a high-performing team at the forefront of structured finance and capital markets.
Corporate Lawyer - Alternative Career Opportunity
Are you an experienced corporate or transactional lawyer who enjoys the legal environment but is beginning to question whether fee earning is the right long-term career path for you?
We are working with an elite international law firm on a genuinely unusual opportunity for an experienced lawyer to move into a senior, practice-facing role focused on the development, performance and effective running of one of the firm's leading transactional teams.
This is not a traditional HR position, nor does it require someone who has previously worked in talent management. The firm is specifically interested in hearing from experienced practising lawyers who can bring legal credibility, commercial judgement and a genuine understanding of the pressures and demands of working within a high-performing transactional practice.
You will be embedded within the practice and work directly with partners, counsel, associates and trainees. Over time, you will build a comprehensive understanding of the team, its people, the nature of the work, current and upcoming matters, individual strengths, development needs and career goals.
A major part of the role will involve working closely with partners on the allocation of lawyers to matters. You will help ensure that teams are appropriately resourced while balancing client needs, workload, utilisation and the longer-term development of individual lawyers.
You will monitor workloads and deal flow, review relevant financial and utilisation data and help identify where additional support or changes in resourcing may be required.
The role also plays a significant part in the professional development of lawyers across the practice. You will be closely involved in performance review processes, development conversations, career planning and identifying training needs. You will work with partners and internal development teams to help create training programmes and other initiatives designed to support lawyers at different stages of their careers.
You will also be involved in lateral and trainee recruitment, onboarding new joiners, supporting lawyers returning from or moving into secondments, helping manage transitions and departures, and contributing to wider projects relating to development, change and the continued success of the practice.
This is an exceptionally relationship-driven role. You will become a trusted point of contact for both partners and lawyers within the team and will need the confidence, judgement and interpersonal skills to work effectively with people at every level.
The firm is looking for someone with a minimum of five years' experience as a practising lawyer. A corporate background would be particularly relevant, although lawyers from other transactional disciplines will also be considered.
You should be commercially minded, highly organised and comfortable working with data and competing priorities. Above all, you should be genuinely interested in people and in understanding how high-performing legal teams operate, develop and succeed.
This opportunity could be particularly well suited to a lawyer who has reached a point in their career where they would like to step away from the traditional fee-earning path while continuing to use the knowledge, credibility and experience they have developed in practice.
You will be joining a highly successful international law firm with an outstanding reputation for complex, high-value and cross-border work. The London office is a significant part of the wider global business and offers a collaborative, high-performing environment with access to some of the most talented lawyers in the market.
The role is permanent and based in London, with hybrid working available.
For a confidential discussion about the opportunity and whether this type of career move could be right for you, please get in touch.
Business Development and Marketing Executive
We are working with a highly regarded and long-established London law firm that is looking to appoint a Business Development and Marketing Executive to join its growing Business Services team.
This is a particularly exciting time to join. The firm has made a number of recent senior hires across its Business Services functions and is investing in strategic, technology-led and innovation-focused projects across the business.
Working closely with both the Business Development Director and the Marketing and Communications Director, this is a broad role offering exposure across the full business development and marketing mix.
On the business development side, you will support a range of initiatives designed to help drive the firm's continued growth. This will include market and client research, identifying and tracking new business opportunities, supporting targeting initiatives, helping to coordinate client and referrer meetings and events, and developing materials for pitches and proposals.
You will also play an important role in the continued roll-out and development of the firm's new CRM technology, helping to coordinate activity, maintain data quality and support wider initiatives designed to embed a strong business development culture across the firm.
The marketing element of the role will include coordinating the firm's legal directory submissions programme across publications including Chambers & Partners and The Legal 500. This will involve working closely with partners, fee earners and internal teams to gather information, manage deadlines and referee processes, and ensure submissions are delivered to a high standard. The emphasis is primarily on coordination and project management rather than drafting submissions from scratch.
The firm is looking for an ambitious and career-minded individual who is proactive, confident and keen to continue developing their business development and marketing experience.
Previous experience within a law firm or wider professional services environment would be advantageous, although it is not essential where someone can demonstrate strong transferable skills and the right aptitude.
You should have excellent communication and organisational skills, strong attention to detail and the confidence to work with senior stakeholders. An interest in technology, CRM systems and the use of AI within professional services would also be welcomed.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to join an experienced and innovative Business Services team and gain broad exposure to strategic business development initiatives within a highly successful firm.
The successful candidate will initially work full-time from the office while completing their induction and becoming familiar with the firm, before moving onto the team's working pattern of four days per week in the office
