£51k to £100k

A progressive, values-led law firm in Surrey is seeking a Head of Family Law to build and lead its newly established family department.

This is a genuine leadership opportunity. You will report directly to the CEO and play a central role in shaping the direction of the practice - not just managing files, but influencing strategy, culture and long-term growth.

The firm is already well-established and highly regarded within its sector, with an impressive client base and a strong commercial foundation. Now, as part of its next phase of expansion, it is investing in a dedicated family offering with a particular focus on domestic abuse matters and trauma-informed client care.

You will be responsible for creating and leading the family law department from the ground up. This includes developing structure, setting standards, recruiting and mentoring team members, and ensuring the department operates both compassionately and commercially.

Alongside strategic leadership, you will maintain your own caseload, advising clients across a broad range of family matters, with particular experience in domestic abuse cases highly desirable.

You will also work closely with referral partners, barristers and external experts, contributing to business development and helping position the department as a trusted and progressive offering in the market.

You will be 5+ years PQE with solid experience in family law. Confidence, emotional intelligence and strong communication skills are essential. The firm is looking for someone empathetic yet commercially aware - someone comfortable leading from the front while remaining open to innovative ways of working.

Experience in domestic abuse cases and trauma-informed practice will be particularly valued.

This role would suit someone ready to step into a true leadership position or an existing Head of Department seeking greater autonomy within a modern, growth-focused environment.

This is a certified B Corp organisation known for its collaborative culture and forward-thinking approach. The environment is modern, supportive and genuinely flexible. The leadership team is ambitious but grounded, with a strong commitment to ethical practice and sustainable growth.

What's on Offer

* Hybrid working (Surrey-based office)

* 3-5 day working options (part-time or full-time)

* Leadership and management development opportunities

* Generous holiday allowance

* Pension scheme

* On-site parking

* A supportive, flexible culture that values wellbeing alongside performance

This is a rare opportunity to shape a department, influence firm-wide strategy and make a meaningful difference in clients' lives.

Employment Solicitor - Something different?
UK&I - London
Permanent
£51k to £100k

A top-ranked international law firm with a highly regarded London employment practice is hiring a qualified employment lawyer for a permanent Staff Attorney position. This is a distinctive role within the team, sitting slightly differently from the traditional associate track and designed for a lawyer who wants to remain close to high-quality employment work while operating within a more sustainable structure.

The practice advises multinational corporate and financial services clients on a broad range of contentious and non-contentious employment matters, working closely with HR, employee relations and in-house legal teams on strategic workforce planning, policy design, complex employee relations issues and senior exits. The work is predominantly advisory rather than transactional, with regular involvement in employment aspects of cross-border matters and corporate activity.

The Staff Attorney role focuses on non-transactional advisory and support work, partnering closely with senior lawyers and contributing meaningfully to client advice, written materials, know-how and practice development. The role is client facing and billable, with all advice and written work subject to partner oversight, but it is intentionally structured with different expectations to the associate track. While the work will fluctuate and busy periods will occur, the overall model is designed to be more balanced and sustainable over the long term.

This opportunity would suit a qualified employment lawyer with a solid grounding in general employment law, strong written skills and confidence preparing client-facing materials. Corporate support experience is helpful but not essential, and the team is open on firm background. The role may appeal to someone currently in a PSL-style position, an overseas-qualified lawyer looking for a permanent role within a leading UK practice, or a lawyer who enjoys advisory employment work but is seeking a step away from the intensity of the associate track without compromising on quality or intellectual interest.

Around a quarter of the role will involve pro bono work, enabling senior lawyers to focus on chargeable matters and offering the successful candidate the chance to make a genuine contribution beyond fee earning alone. The environment is partner led, supportive and collegiate, with clear oversight and real investment in the people within the team. This is a stable, permanent position within a top-tier practice, offering high-quality work, reduced pressure compared to traditional associate roles, and the opportunity to build a long-term career in employment law in a slightly different way.
