Conflicts Lawyer

UK&I - London
Permanent
£100k - £150k

We are working with a leading international US law firm that is looking to appoint a Conflicts Lawyer to its London office.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly regarded global conflicts and new business function in a visible, advisory and commercially focused position.

The successful candidate will work closely with partners, lawyers and senior stakeholders across the firm's international offices, providing practical advice on conflicts of interest and new business intake matters.

The firm is open to candidates at different levels of seniority but requires a minimum of one year's post-qualification experience. The preference is likely to be for a junior to mid-level lawyer who already has the confidence and judgement to operate independently with senior stakeholders.

Previous conflicts or new business intake experience would be advantageous but is not essential. Applications are also welcomed from strong lawyers currently working in fee-earning roles who can clearly explain their motivation for moving into a long-term conflicts career.

Based in London, the Conflicts Lawyer will form part of the firm's global conflicts and new business function, working closely with colleagues in the UK, Europe, the US and other international offices.

This is an advisory and stakeholder-facing role rather than a purely administrative position. The conflicts team is viewed as a business-enabling partner to the firm, balancing robust risk management with commercial pragmatism.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Reviewing and analysing conflicts reports to identify potential conflicts of interest and wider business issues
  • Reviewing escalated conflicts searches and providing clear, practical clearance advice
  • Conducting detailed corporate and regulatory research relating to prospective clients and matter parties
  • Preparing conflicts summaries for partners, outlining identified issues and recommended resolutions
  • Advising on conflict waivers, ethical screens and internal clearances
  • Reviewing and approving new client and matter forms
  • Advising partners, associates and support teams on new business intake policies and procedures
  • Drafting engagement letters, conflict waivers and ethical screens
  • Supporting the conflicts aspects of lateral partner and associate onboarding
  • Contributing to knowledge sharing, training and process improvement
  • Keeping up to date with relevant professional conduct rules and conflicts regulations across applicable jurisdictions

Applicants must:

  • Be admitted to a recognised law society or bar in a jurisdiction in which the firm has an office
  • Have at least one year's post-qualification experience
  • Possess strong legal analytical skills and sound judgement
  • Be confident communicating with partners and senior stakeholders
  • Demonstrate strong commercial awareness and the ability to balance risk with business needs
  • Be comfortable working within a fast-paced, high-performing international law firm
  • Have excellent written and spoken English
  • Be highly organised and able to manage competing priorities
  • Be discreet and comfortable handling confidential and commercially sensitive information
  • Take a collaborative, practical and business-enabling approach

Previous experience in conflicts, new business intake, risk or compliance within a US or large international law firm would be helpful but is not required.

Experience using systems and research platforms such as Intapp Open, Capital IQ, Orbis, Bureau van Dijk or World-Check would also be useful.

The team currently operates a hybrid working model of three days per week in the office and two days from home.
