Legal Counsel - Fintech
We're working with a leading global fintech to appoint a Legal Counsel into its London-based legal team.
This role sits within the regulatory legal function and offers the opportunity to advise on a broad range of payments and financial services regulatory matters across multiple jurisdictions. Working closely with stakeholders across the business, you'll provide commercially focused legal advice on regulatory compliance, product development, licensing, market expansion and wider strategic initiatives.
Key responsibilities include:
- Advising on UK and international payments regulation and wider financial services regulatory requirements.
- Supporting regulatory engagement and licensing matters, including new licence applications and regulatory change projects.
- Reviewing new products and payment flows to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Advising on expansion into new jurisdictions and supporting cross-border regulatory initiatives.
- Partnering with legal and commercial teams to deliver practical, risk-based legal advice across the business.
We're keen to speak with qualified lawyers (England & Wales or equivalent) with 3-7 years' PQE, gained either in private practice or in-house. Looking for someone with an understanding of UK payments regulation and the broader financial services regulatory framework. Experience within fintech, payments, banking or financial services would be beneficial, although candidates with relevant regulatory experience from private practice will also be considered.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for an associate with 2-4 years' PQE from a top-tier law firm to make their first move in-house and work closely with front-office stakeholders on a broad range of DCM transactions.
The Role
You will advise on a wide variety of debt capital markets matters, supporting the bank's business across multiple products and jurisdictions. Working as part of a high-performing legal team, you will gain exposure to complex and innovative transactions while developing strong commercial relationships across the organisation.
Responsibilities will include:
- Advising on debt capital markets transactions, including EMTN programmes and standalone issuances.
- Reviewing, drafting and negotiating transaction documentation.

The role will lead a small legal team, advising on financial promotions, advertising and marketing campaigns across digital, social and traditional channels. Working closely with senior stakeholders, you'll provide commercially focused legal advice, negotiate marketing-related agreements, and help drive compliant innovation.
Key requirements:
- Qualified lawyer with a minimum of 7 years of in-house experience or a top tier law firm, advising on marketing for regulated consumer products.
- Prior retail and consumer experience would be key.
- Strong knowledge of UK financial promotions, advertising regulation and GDPR.
- Experience negotiating marketing, agency and technology agreements.
